ABCO Carpet Cleaning Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is ABCO Carpet Cleaning really firefighter owned?

A: Yes, Firefighter and Family owned

Q: Do you charge extra for Preconditioner or Prespray?

No extra charges - it’s included – If other companies do, it’s a scam! I repeat it’s a SCAM!
(dishonest companies charge a low amount such as $6.95 a rm for just cleaning with a
portable and water from your faucet, which is the same machine you can rent at WAL-Mart
but a little bigger. Then once they get into your home, they charge extra for some sort of
Preconditioner or Prespray such as 25 cents a sq ft. (example: average size rm usually 170
sq ft  X .25 = $42.50 for one rm. So a 5 room home would go from the advertised carpet
cleaning price of $34.75 to $212.50.) DON’T GETSCAMMED! This is called Bait-n-Switch.

Q: Why should I call you when I can get a cheaper carpet cleaner?

A: The Key Word is Cheap and more than likely you will get what you pay for. So, when
you're tired of average or below average, and want more than what is expected, call us for
quality customer service, professional workmanship, your choice of green cleaning
products, and background checks on all employees who also wear uniforms all this at a
Reasonable Fair Price.
In other words, you get a worry free service experience because we want you as a
customer for life. We can't and won't compete with big business because we are unique
and we don't have big money for slick advertising, however, what we do have is a 100%
customer satisfaction track record.

Q: What quick but important questions should I ask a carpet cleaner before hiring
them?

A: 1. Are you insured?  2. Who’s coming to my home? 3. Do you do background checks?
4. What type of vehicle will I be expecting? 5. Do you use environmentally friendly
products? 6. What is your minimum room sq ft? 7. Do you use a portable or truck mount?
8. Are you professionally trained and certified by Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and
Restoration Certification (IICRC)? 9. If so, can I see your card? 10. Are your employees
clean cut and wear uniforms? 11. What is considered extra charges? 12. What cleaning
Method do you use? 13. Do you vacuum? 14. What is EXACTLY included in the price? 15.
Is there extra charge for moving furniture? 16. Do you offer a guarantee?

Q: Do you use subcontractors?

A: No, absolutely not! We are Owner Operated. In other words, the owner himself will
clean your carpet and make sure it’s done right.

Q: Do you charge extra for a two man crew?

A: No, we always run a two man crew – Owner and son sometimes daughter. (Firefighter &
Family Operated)

Q: What should I do to prepare for my carpet cleaning visit?

A: *Remove plants, floor lamps, etc. to an area that is not going to be cleaned.
•    Smaller furnishings and breakable items should also be removed from these areas.
•    Pets should be confined to an area away from the cleaning process.
•    Make special note of any stains that need to be addressed.

Q: My carpets were just cleaned, what are the post cleaning instructions?

A: Use fans in any rooms cleaned or turn on air conditioner to accelerate drying time.Leave
protectant tabs until carpet is dry to avoid color transfer. Stay off wet carpet as much as
possible. If you must walk on the carpet, be careful when walking from carpet to hard
surfaces - floors can be slippery. Carpets typically take between 1-2 hours to dry
(depending on the wear of the carpet and humidity)

Q: My Carpet is really old, should I replace it?

A: With the cost of replacing carpet being as expensive as it is today, it is always best to
try having the carpet professionally cleaned first. It is less costly and may make a world of
difference.

Q: Can you clean my carpets when I am at work?

A: Yes, of course. In fact we do this quite often.

Q: Why do some carpet cleaners advertise extremely low prices (as low as $6.00 per
room) and when they arrive to clean my carpets the price always goes up?

A: It is an old trick called bait and switch. Simply, they want you to book with them
because the price is too good to refuse. When the cleaner arrives at your house you will be
charged all the extras like extra for stain removal, extra for medium to heavy soiling, extra
because you will be told your carpet needs and industrial clean, extra for deodorising,
extra because the $6.00 per room price only applies when you have 15 rooms cleaned and
the list goes on.

Q: What Methods of Payment Do You Accept?

A: We accept personal checks, cash, money orders, and all major credit cards.  Payment is
due at time of service unless prior arrangements have been made with the office.  If you
cannot be home when the job is completed we can take a credit card over the phone and
leave you a copy of the receipt.

Q: Do you clean upholstery?

A: Yes – For more info, Click Here.

Q:  How should I maintain my carpet?

A: Vacuuming frequently, especially in high traffic areas is the best way to care for your
carpet. Walking on soiled carpets allows the soil particles to work their way down below the
surface of the pile making it far more difficult to remove dirt and increasing the chances of
carpet damage.

Q. Will all the stains come out?

A: Most soils and spots are removed, but some spots and stains will require treatment
with specialty cleaners to completely remove them. We cannot guarantee, however, that all
spots and stains will be removed. Some stains have permanently added color to the
carpet. Removal of the colored stain would also remove the color of the carpet. Other
stains remove carpet color such as chlorine bleach. Cleaning does not restore color.

Rest assured that we have been trained on and equipped with the latest stain removal
techniques and products available. If a stain is determined to be permanent, we will discuss
other options with you such as replacing the stained section of the carpet with a section
obtained from a left over piece or from an unseen area of a closet. Our goal is to help you
maintain your carpet in as close to new condition as possible.

Q: What is the difference between Staining and Soiling a carpet?

A: The majority of stain complaints from customers are actually soil related.  For example,
soft-drink and coffee spills leave a sugar residue after removal.  This sticky residue attracts
soil from ordinary shoe traffic resulting in a discolored area which, appears to be the stain.
This also occurs when a detergent is used to clean a spill in which residue is left behind.  It
is essential that an area with a spill is thoroughly rinsed with water and blotted dry after
removing any spill.

Q: I've heard it's best to put off having your carpet cleaned as long as possible, is this
true?

A: No. In fact, many of the major carpet mills today recommend professional cleaning at
least once per year. The build up of soil in your carpet in combination with foot traffic
creates abrasion that breaks down your carpets' fibers. The higher the traffic in a given
area, the more often the carpet will need cleaning.

Q: How often should my carpet be cleaned?

A: The E.P.A. recommends cleaning your carpet a minimum of once a year. However, E.P.A. studies
show that environmental conditions can increase the frequency of needed cleanings. Factors such as
location of your home, humidity, pets, and children can create the need to clean your carpets as often
as every two to three months.

After carpet cleaning, is carpet protection really worth the cost?

A: Yes, if you regularly maintain your carpets by vacuuming, etc., or if they have light to moderate
soiling over a one-year period. No, if you do no maintain your carpets or they become heavily soiled in
the same one year period, in this case, more frequent cleanings (steam) would be a better value.
